Getting closer… gulp!

Young eating cakeHere’s Young eating chocolate cake… “Please point out that it’s a reduced-sugar cake”, she calls out to me as I write this :)  Yes, we are less than 2 weeks away from delivery day (July 12).  Not sure if he’ll come early or hang out inside for a little longer.  We’ll see.  Enjoy the pic… she’s at 38 weeks; holy crap.

More pregnancy pics

I know, I know, I’m way overdue in posting pregnancy pics. Although I’m already at week 36 (only 4 more weeks or so to go!), here are some earlier pics of me in case you’d like to check out my ballooning belly.

At week 34 (post haircut)

At Week 31

Doctor appoinmtents have been frequent because of my diabetes (will be 2 a week starting this week), but things are continuing to progress well.

I’ll post some pics of the nursery, once things are straightened up a bit. Most things are in place, but there are still some odds and ends lying around. Hope you have a good week!

Lake Wenatchee

Chris and the Shore-WongsOh the great outdoors! Two weekends ago, Young and I headed east to Lake Wenatchee with our community group. We’ve been trying to get out more before the baby arrives, so we figured this would work well. While I was initially concerned about Young being out in the woods, 7.5 months pregnant and all, everything worked out. Young rested some, read, baked brownies while I went on a hike, stirred up a super-soaker battle and helped grill burgers. Oh, and our friends enjoyed the lake, as the photo seems to indicate :)

Bay Area Baseball

At AT&T ParkYes… two more ballparks to add to the list. In my quest to visit all 30 ballparks, I headed down to the Bay Area over Memorial Day weekend and caught 2 games. That brings my total to 16. Guess I’ll have to visit the other 14 with my boy :)

As for Bay Area baseball, AT&T Park, home to the Giants, offered a wonderful selection of food. Lydia and I enjoyed a simple brat and garlic fries. Oh, and an overpriced, but apropo Maerzen beer. As for the Oakland A’s, I wish I could rave about Read the rest of this entry »

Stamp night fun

In case you think all we’re doing is obsessing aobut the baby coming, let me share with you what I did in eacraftspace1rly May - Stamp night at Impress Stamps! Impress has quarterly stamp nights where you come hang out, and create cards, using their stamps and ink! They provide these basic supplies, dinner, treats and space for $20. While $20 felt a bit steep, I found it was totally worth it to use stamps over and over again without having to purchase them! I was able to finish up some cards with sentiments from impress, and stamp some images that I can color in at home for future use! It was also nice to meet some new folks and not have to worry about cleaning up after I was done. =)

I was inspired by all creative folk and energy around me - I actually managed to stay awake until 11 pm, at which point I called it quits (they go until midnight). I’m not sure if I’ll be able to make the next stamp night (it’s going to be in June or July), but I’m looking forward to the next time I get to attend. In case you’ re wondering what my craft space at home looks like, here it is:

Generous Friends…

Below is a pic of me surrounded by about 2/3 of the clothing that Jen & Ryan passed on to us for our baby - can you saw WOW! I couldn’t believe the amount of clothes, considering these were the gender neutral items after having 2 girls. I think our little boy will have a vanity problem for sure with his decked out wardrobe! Good thing he won’t be paying too much attention to what he wears for a little while yet. =) Not only did Jen & Ryan provide the clothes, they also passed on their baby exersaucer, playmat, and infant bathtub, items that we’re happy not to buy, as baby might only use for a short while.

baby_clothes1We feel very blessed with all the ways other friends have gifted us. Other couples have:

gifted us with their gently used crib
offered to let us borrow their infant carseat, stroller, etc.
made Young yummy soup

We’re excited that we’re getting to borrow/use these items that have a relatively short lifespan, and grateful for good friends that make that possible!

Of course, I’ve also had some fun buying new items on sale - because man, do I love a sale. =) Baby’s closet is well stocked already!

Weekend fun: Madison baby shower

madison baby showerIn early April, I used my frequent flier miles to travel back to Madison, WI (my hometown!) and had a blast seeing old friends and connecting with college roommates. The reason for going? Flashing my tummy and sharing the joy of pregnancy and getting some support, encouragement and love from friends and coworkers.

Owning a Baby

Baby Owner's Manual coverSomebody recently shared this “manual” with me and I can’t get over the hilarious wording and graphics; the book is a guide targeted at tech-geek guys who are expecting a baby. I must admit that while I find the book humorous, it does make me more anxious as fatherhood approaches. “Owning” a baby? Holy cow!!! Fortunately, Young and I both have a great support network of family and friends, local and non-local, to help share in the “ownership”. If you’re expecting to “own” soon, I highly recommend “the baby owner’s manual”.

Oh, and if you’re counting, this is my third post. As our little one’s due date approaches, you may be hearing more from me. Something tells me that Young won’t be in any shape to announce our baby boy’s birth day :)

Is it a boy or a girl?

Some of you may be wondering if we’re having a boy or girl. Tim and I are 99% sure of the gender, but we’re revealing the gender to some of our friends in April, thus holding off on posting the news here! Why wait? We’re revealing the gender at one of Young’s baby showers, which is fun, but means you have to wait a bit longer to find out. ;)

It’ll be fun to reveal the gender here once the shower is over! Until then, feel free to post your predictions (and shh, to those who already know…).
